As part of the school accreditation process, MSD updates its strategic plan every five years. As a result of a Dynamic Planning Process that involved key stakeholders (i.e., parents, staff, community members, the local ISD, and Deaf advocacy agencies), four DRAFT goals have been identified and are listed below. Please submit any questions or comments about the goals to Janet Kelley at KelleyJJ@michigan.gov prior to noon on Thursday, March 29th. These public comments will be considered at the next Dynamic Planning Process meeting, to be held on March 30th.
GOAL #1
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
Michigan School for the Deaf will promote 21stCentury, ASL/English bilingual learners through instruction that focuses on critical thinking and that will engage students in a way that allows them to be creative and life-long learners.
Suggested Strategies:
Early Intervention
- 0 – 3 program; language development, social skills, parent education, community collaboration (ISDs, Deaf Community, etc.)
Late Intervention
- Assessment, curriculum/classes, immersion
- Investigate block scheduling possibilities
Year Round School or Summer Program (to address severe summer regression)

- Make a list of our staff and their duties so people know who to send people to
- Contact groups to see if MSD can speak
- Encourage staff to take GISD professional development classes to build relationships with local educators
- Staff to take professional development from Deaf universities and others based on Deaf research
Increase partnerships with organizations to help promote MSD
